the clinic

experience

Our consultations are relaxed, thorough and professional. The diagnostic process is calm and straightforward. Treatment options and plans are clearly discussed allowing the best choice to be agreed with your consultant.

You will leave the clinic having had all your queries answered, and satisfied that you have an investigation and treatment plan in place.

TESTS & INVESTIGATIONS

Tests and investigations are conducted on site fairly quickly and comfortably, meaning your results are available in the shortest possible time.

ENDOSCOPY

Endoscopy affords direct visualisation of the lining of the upper gastrointestinal (OGD) or lower gastrointestinal (colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy) tracts. Being the gold standard of upper and lower gut anatomical investigation, these are available within short waiting times. Your best care relies on sound and timely diagnosis and treatment plans.

Endoscopic procedures are carried out quite comfortably with a substantial proportion of patients choosing to have minimal or no sedation.

Surgery

Operations performed at The Rectal Bleeding Clinic include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, open and laparoscopic hernia repair, surgery for Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, colorectal cancer, anal fistula, anal fissure and haemorrhoids.

haemorrhoids (piles)

Haemorrhoids commonly cause rectal bleeding. Having ensured there are no other contributors to bleeding, we offer a range of effective treatment options such as band ligation, classic haemorrhoidectomy and transanal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation (THD).

The THD Procedure is the currently recommended technique by The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), for haemorrhoid surgery, as it is the least painful, and most effective procedure. It involves identifying the feeding blood vessels of the haemorrhoids by Doppler technique, and tying them off.

The classic haemorrhoidectomy method, by contrast, requires peeling off the haemorrhoidal  tissues, creating raw areas that often account for significant discomfort or pain.

gallstones

We perform day-case laparoscopic (keyhole) cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder) for gallstones.

Most patients are ready to go home within a few hours or stay overnight after evening surgery.
